Muruʾah (dignified self-restraint)
By muruʾah we mean abstaining from certain base and demeaning behaviors that clash with lofty resolve and proper decorum—such as indulging in some lowly yet technically lawful acts like eating or drinking in the marketplace, or urinating in the street, and the like.
The probity required for narration is broader than that required for testimony
It should be understood that the probity expected of a transmitter is more inclusive than the probity expected of a legal witness, for the latter is restricted to the free person, whereas the former embraces both the free and the enslaved.
Ḍabṭ (precision)
What is meant by precision is safeguarding what one has heard and securing it from loss or distortion, so that the narrator can recall it whenever needed.
The two kinds of precision
Precision is of two kinds:
1 – precision of the chest (memory)
2 – precision of the book (written record)
