Anʿana
Anʿana refers to relating a ḥadīth with the wording, “from (ʿan) so-and-so, from so-and-so.”
The Muʿanʿan
A muʿanʿan ḥadīth is one that has been transmitted through anʿana.
Conditions for anʿana
As for anʿana, Muslim deems mere contemporaneity sufficient, al-Bukhārī stipulates that the transmitters must actually have met, while some other scholars require demonstrable direct reception.
