Manuscript Copies of the Book:
Brockelmann drew attention to the extant manuscripts of the work (1), listing a copy in Leiden (2024), Yeni Cami (761), Aya Sofya (2243), Garrett (1518), Brill II (976), and Tunis, al-Zaytuna (4/436/291). Additional manuscripts exist that Brockelmann did not mention.
The manuscripts that came into my possession while preparing this critical edition are the following:
First: the copy preserved in the Ḥājj Bashīr Agha Library in Istanbul (Turkey) under shelf number 413, a collection that has since been incorporated into the Süleymaniye Library. It comprises 154 folios, each containing 25 lines. At the beginning is a four-folio table of contents written in a fine naskh hand, while the contents list itself is in Persian script dated 1144 AH. The title page bears an ownership inscription of Ḥājj Bashīr Agha dated 1151 AH, together with the library seal, the classification number, and the endowment stamp. The closing folio reads: “The book has been completed with the help of Allah, the Bestower. Praise be to Allah for its completion, and blessings and peace be upon His Prophet and his noble Companions. Penned by the weakest of mankind, Sayyid ʿUthmān al-Qarīmī … in the year one thousand one hundred and forty-four.”
I have designated this manuscript with the siglum (غ).
Second: a copy in the Aya Sofya Library in Istanbul, shelf number 2223, consisting of 154 folios with 25 lines per page. Preceding the title page
