Insights whose very daylight blinds them with its brilliance, while a patch of pitch-black night is what truly suits them.

The light of prophethood almost blinds those inner sights and snatches them away, so intense is it and so weak are they. Consequently, they rush back into the darknesses that correspond to them and befit their nature.
The believer, on the other hand—his deed is light, his word is light, his entrance is light, his exit is light, and his intention is light; he moves about in light in all his circumstances. Allah, Exalted, says:
“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His light is that of a niche containing a lamp; the lamp is in a glass; the glass is as though it were a glittering star lit from a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west; its oil would almost shine even if no fire touched it—light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills, and Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is Knowing of all things.” [24:35]
He then mentioned the state of the disbelievers, their deeds, and how they flounder (1) in darknesses, saying:
“But those who disbelieve—their works are like a mirage in a desert; the thirsty one supposes it to be water, until when he comes to it he finds nothing there, yet finds Allah with him, who settles his account—Allah is swift in reckoning. Or they are like layers of darkness in a deep sea, covered by a wave, above which is a wave, above which are clouds: darknesses, one above another. When he stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it. And for whomever Allah has not appointed light, no light shall he have.” [24:39–40]
All praise belongs to Allah first and last, outwardly and inwardly, and may Allah send blessings upon our master Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, and upon his family and all his Companions, and grant them abundant peace until the Day of Judgment. Praise be to Allah, Lord of all worlds. (2)
