So this is what the Jews have to say, and they are your senior authorities on the crucifixion and its details. It is well known that no Christian was present when it occurred; only the Jews were there (1) and they declared, “We killed him and crucified him.” They are the very ones who uttered about him what we have just reported. Therefore, if you accept their word on the crucifixion, accept it as well for everything else they related; but if you reject what they transmitted about him, what obliges you to believe them on the crucifixion while denying the testimony of the truest of the truthful—whose veracity has been established by decisive proofs—that they neither killed him nor crucified him? Rather, Allah protected, guarded, and preserved him; he was far too honored and esteemed by Allah to be subjected to the trial you and the Jews allege.
As for what you yourselves maintain, we know of no nation (2) whose members differ more about their deity, their prophet, and their religion than you do. If you were to ask a man, his wife, his daughter, his mother, and his father about their faith, each would give an answer different from the others.
If ten of them were to gather to discuss doctrine, they would part holding eleven distinct opinions—despite the fact that their well-known sects (3) today agree on belief in the Trinity, on worship of the cross, and on the claim that the Messiah son of Mary is neither a righteous servant, nor a prophet, nor a messenger, but is in truth God Himself: the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the angels, and the prophets; the One who sent the messengers and displayed miracles and signs through them; that the universe has a God who is an eternal Father without beginning; that His Son descended from heaven, became incarnate through the Holy Spirit and through Mary, and that He together with her human son (4) became one God and one Messiah.
