he said, “No prophet is honored in his own homeland.” (1) Thus he claimed nothing beyond prophethood.
And in the Gospel of Luke: “No prophet is accepted (2) in his own country; so how will you accept me?” (3)
In the Gospel of Mark (4) it is related that a man came to the Messiah and asked, “Good Teacher, (5) what good deed should I perform to obtain eternal life?” The Messiah answered, “Why do you call me good? None is good except God alone. You know the commandments: do not steal, do not commit adultery, (6) do not bear false witness, do not defraud, and honor your father and mother.” (7)
And in the Gospel of John it is reported that when the Jews sought to seize him, he lifted his eyes to heaven and said, “The hour has drawn near, O my God; so honor me in Your presence and grant me a way by which I may bestow everlasting life—indeed, the abiding life— (8) upon all whom You have entrusted to me: that they may know You as the one true God and the Messiah whom You have sent. I have glorified You among the people of the earth and have borne what You commanded me; so honor me.” (9) Thus he never claimed anything but that he was a servant, sent and commanded.
