They say: In our doctrine the Messiah is a son of Adam—yet he is Adam’s Lord, Maker, and Provider; he is likewise the son of Adam’s descendant Abraham—yet he is Abraham’s Lord, Maker, and Provider; he is the son of Israel—yet Israel’s Lord, Maker, and Provider; and he is Mary’s son—yet Mary’s Lord, Maker, and Provider.
They add: Our scholars, indeed the one taken as an exemplar by all our sects, have stated: “Jesus (1) was in the beginning and has ever remained the Word; the Word has ever remained God, and God is the Word. Therefore the one whom Mary bore and whom (2) people beheld and lived among is God, the Son of God, and the Word of God.” (3)
These are their own words.
They continue (4): The Eternal, pre-existent Creator of the heavens and the earth is the very one whom people saw with their eyes and touched with their hands; he is the one (5) whom Mary conceived and who spoke to people from within her womb, when he said to the blind man, “Do you believe in God?” The blind man replied (6), “Who is he, that I may believe in him?” He said, “It is he who is speaking to you.” (7) The man responded, “I believe in you,” and fell down in prostration. Hence, the one whom Mary conceived is God, the Son of God, and the Word of God. (8)
