is what I tell you so that you will not waver when he comes.’ (1)
‘Manḥamnā’ in Syriac—rendered in Greek as ‘Paraclete’—in Hebrew denotes “the Praiser,” “the Praised One,” and “praise,” as explained earlier.
Thirty-Third Aspect. The Gospel further relates that the Messiah said to the Jews: ‘You say, “Had we lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part in killing the prophets.” So fill up the measure of your fathers, you serpents (2), brood of vipers! How will you escape the punishment of Hell? I will send you prophets and sages; some of them you will kill and crucify, others you will scourge, and you will pursue them from town to town, so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth—from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you slew beside the altar. Truly, everything I have described will fall upon this generation. O Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you! How often I wished to gather your children as a hen gathers her chicks beneath her wings, but you refused. Your house shall be left to you desolate, and I tell you: you will not see me again until there comes one of whom it is said, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”’ (3)
Thus the Messiah informed them that they would necessarily receive the full measure allotted to them; that their house would be left desolate (4)—that is, emptied of them; and that he would depart so they would no longer see him until the Blessed One who comes in the name of Allah arrived. He is the one who subsequently avenged the blood of the believers.
