Twenty-second Proof: Isaiah also says, “I shall raise up from the east wind a people who will come from the sunrise, answering in multitudes as countless as the dust, like the potter who treads the clay with his foot.” (1)
The east wind blows from the direction of the sunrise, and it was from that quarter that God, exalted is He, sent forth a people of the Orient who respond with the talbiyah, as numerous as the very soil.
As for his words, “like the potter who treads the clay with his foot,” this may allude either to the brisk stride during tawaf and saʿy, or to men whose feet have grown weary from prolonged walking.
Twenty-third Proof: We likewise read in the Book of Isaiah: “My servant, My chosen, the delight of My soul—upon him I shall pour out My spirit,” or, “I shall send down My spirit upon him. He will make My justice manifest among the nations and enjoin them with the commandments. He will not laugh, nor will his voice be heard. He opens the eyes of the blind (2), causes the deaf ears to hear, revives the veiled hearts, and what I bestow upon him I bestow upon no one else. (He will neither weaken nor be overcome.) (3) He will not incline to frivolity, nor will his voice be raised in the marketplaces. He is a shelter for the humble; he is the light of God that shall never be extinguished. He will not be out-argued until he establishes My proof upon the earth, and through him all excuse is cut off.” (4)
