—except Muhammad ﷺ. He warned the entire world (1) in all its varied peoples, rebuking them for the sin of unbelief, depravity, and disobedience. He did not stop at simply commanding and forbidding; rather, he censured them, alarmed them, and threatened them.
Moreover, he declared that he does not speak on his own, but speaks only what he hears. This means that everything he utters is revelation he hears; it is not something he learned from people or arrived at by deduction. This is a distinction unique to Muhammad ﷺ.
As for Christ, he already possessed knowledge of what Moses had brought before him—a knowledge he shared with the People of the Book and had received from those before him. Then a particular revelation (2) came to him from Allah in addition to what he already knew. The Most High said: “And He will teach him the Scripture, the Wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān 3:48⦘.
Thus Allah, exalted be He, informed that He would teach him the Torah that the Children of Israel had learned, and would add to it the Gospel with which he was uniquely favored, together with “the book,” meaning the skill of writing. Muhammad ﷺ, by contrast, knew absolutely nothing before revelation, as the Exalted says:
“And thus We revealed to you a spirit of Our command; you knew neither what the Scripture was nor faith.” ⦗Ash-Shūrā 42:52⦘.
He also says:
“We relate to you the most beautiful of stories through what We have revealed to you of this Quran; before it you were indeed among the unaware.” (3) ⦗Yūsuf 12:3⦘.
Hence he ﷺ never spoke on his own initiative; he spoke only by revelation,
