Ninth: It is entirely possible (1) that other manuscripts—different from the copies now in their hands—once contained those passages, that they were later removed from some of them, and that the copies they possess today were taken from the expurgated versions.
Their statement, “The Torah manuscripts agree in every land, East and West,” is an obvious lie. The Torah kept by the Christians differs from the Torah kept by the Jews, and the Torah kept by the Samaritans differs from both. Likewise, the various copies of the Gospel differ and even contradict one another.
Their claim, then, that the Torah and Gospel manuscripts are uniform throughout the world, is sheer slander and falsehood which they peddle to people who are scarcely better than cattle. Indeed, the very Torah in the hands of the Jews contains additions, alterations, and omissions so evident that no scholar firmly grounded in knowledge can miss them; they know with certainty that such material was never in the Torah revealed by God to Moses, nor in the Gospel revealed to Jesus.
How could the Gospel that was revealed to Jesus possibly contain the story of his crucifixion—relating what befell him, specifying that he was crucified on such-and-such a day, that he rose from the grave after three days, and other details that are nothing more than the words of Christian elders? At most they are the words of the disciples, which were mixed with the Gospel, and then the whole collection was called “the Gospel.”
Likewise (2), the Gospels in their possession came to be four, each contradicting the others. Among their fabrications and lies is their assertion that the Torah in their hands is identical to that held by the Jews and the Samaritans.
