Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(77) “To Allah belongs the unseen of the heavens and the earth. The affair of the Hour is but like the blink of an eye, or even nearer. Surely Allah has power over all things.”

That is, He Most High alone knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. None but He knows hidden matters, inner realities, and secrets. This includes knowledge of the Hour: no one but Allah knows when it will come. When it comes and becomes manifest, it will be “but like the blink of an eye, or even nearer.” People will rise from their graves for the Day of their resurrection, and every opportunity will be lost to anyone seeking a reprieve. “Surely Allah has power over all things”; therefore, in view of His all-encompassing power, His bringing the dead back to life should not be thought astonishing.
