(72) “Allah has made for you spouses from among yourselves, and through your spouses He has given you sons and grandchildren. He has also provided you with good things. Will they then believe in falsehood and disbelieve in Allah’s blessing?”
Allah Most High tells of His immense favor toward His servants: He has made spouses for them in whom they may find tranquility, and through their spouses He has given them offspring who bring them joy, serve them, fulfill their needs, and benefit them in many ways. He has also provided them with good things of every kind—food, drink, and evident blessings that His servants could never enumerate.
“Will they then believe in falsehood and disbelieve in Allah’s blessing?” That is, will they believe in something false—something that was not even a thing worth mentioning until Allah brought it into existence, and whose only inherent state is nonexistence? It can neither create nor provide nor govern anything whatsoever. This applies to everything worshipped besides Allah, for all such objects of worship are false. How, then, can the polytheists take them as objects of worship besides Allah?!
“And disbelieve in Allah’s blessing?” They deny His blessings and use them to help them disobey Allah and disbelieve in Him. Is this anything but the grossest injustice, the most brazen wickedness, and the utmost folly?
