Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(35) “And when Abraham said, ‘My Lord, make this land secure.’”

That is, remember Abraham, peace be upon him, in this noble state, when he said, “My Lord, make this land”—meaning the Sacred Precinct—“secure.” Allah answered his prayer in both His Law and His providential decree: He declared it inviolable in the Sacred Law and providentially brought about the well-known means of preserving its sanctity. No wrongdoer has ever sought to harm it without Allah crushing him, as He did the People of the Elephant and others.
