“And He has given you something of everything you asked of Him. If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you could never enumerate them. Indeed, man is exceedingly unjust and deeply ungrateful.”
“And He has given you something of everything you asked of Him”: that is, He has granted you everything to which your hopes and needs are attached—things you ask of Him either through your very condition or in spoken words—such as livestock, tools, crafts, and other things.
“If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you could never enumerate them,” let alone duly give thanks for them. “Indeed, man is exceedingly unjust and deeply ungrateful.” That is, such is human nature in itself: man is unjust, brazenly committing sins and failing to fulfil the rights of his Lord; he is deeply ungrateful for Allah’s blessings, neither giving thanks for them nor acknowledging them—except for those whom Allah guides to show gratitude for His blessings, recognize their Lord’s rights, and fulfil them.
These verses contain a tremendous array of Allah’s blessings upon His servants, mentioned both generally and in detail. Through them, Allah calls His servants to give thanks to Him and remember Him, urges them to do so, and encourages them to ask and supplicate Him by night and day, just as His blessings come to them continually at all times.
