(1) “In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Alif, Lām, Mīm, Rā. These are the verses of the Book. What has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, but most people do not believe.”

The Exalted informs us that this Quran consists of the verses of the Book, which set forth everything the servants need regarding the fundamentals and subsidiary matters of religion. What was sent down to the Messenger from his Lord is the manifest truth: its reports are truthful, its commands and prohibitions are just, and it is supported by conclusive evidence and proofs. Whoever devotes himself to it and seeks knowledge of it will be among those who know the truth—knowledge that requires them to act in accordance with what Allah loves.

“But most people do not believe” in this Quran, either because they are ignorant of it, turn away from it, and show no concern for it, or because of obstinacy and wrongdoing. Hence, most people derive no benefit from it because they lack what is necessary to benefit from it.
