(101) “My Lord, You have given me a share of authority and taught me the interpretation of events. Originator of the heavens and earth, You are my Guardian in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.”
When Allah had granted Joseph authority in the land and dominion, brought him joy through reunion with his parents and brothers, and bestowed upon him immense knowledge, Joseph acknowledged Allah’s blessing, gave thanks for it, and prayed to remain steadfast in Islam:
“My Lord, You have given me a share of authority,” for he had charge of the land’s storehouses and their administration and was a senior minister to the king; “and taught me the interpretation of events”—that is, the interpretation of the accounts in the revealed Books, the interpretation of dreams, and other branches of knowledge. “Originator of the heavens and earth, You are my Guardian in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim”—that is, preserve me in Islam and keep me steadfast upon it until You cause me to die upon it. This was not a prayer for death to be hastened. “And join me with the righteous”—the virtuous prophets and the chosen, noble servants.
