“109” “So do not be in doubt concerning what these people worship. They worship only as their forefathers worshipped before. We will surely give them their allotted share in full, undiminished.”

Allah Most High says to His Messenger Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “So do not be in doubt concerning what these people worship”—that is, the polytheists. Do not doubt their condition or that the path they follow is false, for they have neither revealed nor rational evidence to support it. Their only argument and specious claim is that “they worship only as their forefathers worshipped before.”

It is well known that this does not even constitute a specious argument, much less evidence. The statements of anyone other than the prophets require evidence in their support and cannot themselves be cited as evidence—especially the statements of misguided people such as these, whose errors and corrupt views concerning the fundamentals of religion were so numerous. Even if they unanimously agreed upon those views, they would still be error and misguidance.

“We will surely give them their allotted share in full, undiminished.” That is, they will inevitably receive whatever share of this world has been decreed for them. No matter how abundant that share may be or how pleasing it may appear to you, it does not indicate that their condition is sound. Allah gives worldly things both to those He loves and to those He does not love, but He grants faith and the true religion only to those He loves. In sum, one must not be deceived by the misguided agreeing with the misguided views of their ancient forefathers, nor by the worldly possessions and blessings Allah has bestowed upon them.
