Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“Then, when Our command came”—when the punishment descended and befell them—“We turned” their dwellings “upside down.” That is, We overturned them upon their inhabitants, “and rained upon them stones of intensely heated fire, one after another,” pursuing anyone who had escaped the town.

They were “marked by your Lord”—that is, bearing the mark of punishment and wrath. “And they are not far from the wrongdoers” who commit deeds like those of ⦗387⦘ the people of Lot. Let Allah’s servants therefore beware of acting as they did, lest they be afflicted by what afflicted them.
