(12–14) “Perhaps you would abandon some of what is revealed to you and feel distressed by it because they say, ‘Why has a treasure not been sent down to him, or an angel come with him?’ You are only a warner, and Allah is Guardian over all things.”
Allah Most High says, consoling His Prophet Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—over the rejection of those who deny the truth: “Perhaps you would abandon some of what is revealed to you and feel distressed by it because they say, ‘Why has a treasure not been sent down to him.’” That is, such a response does not befit one such as you: their words should not affect you or deter you from your course, causing you to abandon some of what is revealed to you or to feel distressed by their obstinate demand: “Why has a treasure not been sent down to him, or an angel come with him?” Such words arise only from obstinacy, injustice, defiance, misguidance, and ignorance of the proper force of proofs and evidence. Therefore, continue upon your course. Do not let these feeble assertions—which could proceed only from a fool—deter you, nor let your heart be distressed by them.
Have they presented you with an argument that you cannot refute? Or have they levelled any criticism against what you have brought that genuinely undermines it or diminishes its worth, so that you should feel distressed by it?!
Or are you responsible for calling them to account and required to compel them to accept guidance? “You are only a warner, and Allah is Guardian over all things.” He has charge of them: He records their deeds and will recompense them for those deeds in full.
