(93) “We certainly settled the Children of Israel in a goodly abode.”
That is, Allah caused them to settle and dwell in the homes of Pharaoh’s people, and made them inherit their land and dwellings.
“And We provided them with good things”—food, drink, and other provisions. “They did not differ” concerning the truth “until knowledge came to them,” which should have brought them together in unity and harmony. Yet some of them transgressed against others, and many developed whims and aims contrary to the truth, so great dissension arose among them.
“Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they differed,” with the wisdom of justice arising from His perfect knowledge and all-encompassing power. This is the affliction that befalls the followers of the true religion.
When they thwart Satan by refusing to obey his call to abandon religion altogether, he strives to sow discord among them and instill enmity and hatred. The resulting dissension gives rise to these evils, followed by their declaring one another misguided and showing hostility toward one another—all to the delight of the accursed one.
After all, if their Lord is one, their Messenger is one, their religion is one, and their common interests coincide, why should they fall into dissension that divides their ranks, scatters their affairs, and dissolves the bonds and order that unite them—causing them to lose so many religious and worldly benefits and allowing so much of their religion to die away?
O Allah, we ask You to show such kindness to Your believing servants as will unite their ranks, mend their divisions, and bring those who are far back together with those who are near. O Possessor of Majesty and Honor!
