⦗62–64⦘ “Indeed, the close servants of Allah will have no fear, nor will they grieve—those who believe and are mindful of Him. For them are glad tidings in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. There is no change in the words of Allah. That is the supreme triumph.”
Allah the Exalted informs us about His close and beloved servants, mentioning their deeds, qualities, and reward. He says: “Indeed, the close servants of Allah will have no fear” concerning the dangers and terrors that await them.
“Nor will they grieve” over what they have sent ahead, for they have sent ahead only righteous deeds. Since they will have no fear and will not grieve, they are assured of security, happiness, and abundant good known only to Allah the Exalted.
He then mentions their qualities: “Those who believe” in Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree, both its good and its evil. They demonstrate the truth of their faith by observing piety, obeying the commands, and avoiding the prohibitions.
Thus, everyone who is a believer and mindful of Him is a close servant of Allah [the Exalted], and “for them are glad tidings in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.”
The glad tidings in this world consist of being praised well, receiving affection in the hearts of the believers, seeing good dreams, witnessing Allah’s kindness toward the servant and His facilitation of the finest deeds and character, and being kept away from bad character.
As for the Hereafter, its glad tidings begin when their souls are taken, as Allah the Exalted says: “Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast—the angels descend upon them, saying, ‘Do not fear or grieve, but rejoice in the Paradise you were promised.’”
In the grave, they receive glad tidings of Allah the Exalted’s pleasure and everlasting bliss.
In the Hereafter, the glad tidings are completed by admission into the Gardens of Bliss and deliverance from the painful punishment.
“There is no change in the words of Allah.” Rather, whatever Allah has promised is true and can neither be altered nor changed, for He is truthful in His word, and no one can oppose what He has determined and decreed.
“That is the supreme triumph,” for it comprises deliverance from everything feared and the attainment of everything desired and beloved. Triumph is confined to this, for no triumph belongs to anyone other than the people of faith and piety.
In sum, these glad tidings encompass every good and every reward that Allah has made consequent upon faith and piety in this world and the Hereafter. He therefore stated them without qualification or restriction.
