Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“Those who do good will have the finest reward and more. Neither gloom nor humiliation will cover their faces. They are the inhabitants of Paradise; there they will abide forever.”

After He called to the Abode of Peace, it was as though souls became eager to perform the deeds that warrant it and lead to it. He therefore spoke of them, saying: “Those who do good will have the finest reward and more.” That is, those who excel in worshipping the Creator by worshipping Him with watchful awareness and sincere devotion, fulfilling as much of that worship as they are able; and who show kindness to Allah’s servants, to the best of their ability, in word and deed—by providing financial assistance, helping through their own efforts, commanding what is right and forbidding what is wrong, teaching the ignorant, sincerely advising those who turn away, and all other forms of righteousness and kindness.

Those who do good will have “the finest reward,” namely Paradise in its perfect beauty, “and more,” namely gazing upon the noble Face of Allah, hearing His speech, attaining His pleasure, and delighting in nearness to Him. Thus, they will attain the highest thing anyone could ever wish for or ask.

He then stated that everything feared will be kept from them, saying: “Neither gloom nor humiliation will cover their faces.” That is, nothing unpleasant will befall them in any way, for when something unpleasant befalls a person, its effect becomes visible on his face, which changes and grows troubled.

As for these people, they are as (1) Allah says of them: “You will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss.” “They are the inhabitants of Paradise,” who will remain there forever. “There they will abide forever,” never departing, passing away, or changing.
