(21) “Whenever We let people taste mercy after adversity has afflicted them, they immediately scheme against Our signs. Say, ‘Allah is swifter in scheming. Indeed, Our messengers record whatever you scheme.’”
Allah Most High says: “Whenever We let people taste mercy after adversity has afflicted them”—such as health after illness, wealth after poverty, and safety after fear—they forget the adversity that befell them and do not thank Allah for their ease and His mercy. Rather, they persist in their transgression and scheming.
Hence He says: “They immediately scheme against Our signs.” That is, they strive through falsehood to invalidate the truth.
“Say, ‘Allah is swifter in scheming.’” Indeed, an evil scheme recoils only upon its perpetrators. Thus, their aim turns against them, and they do not escape the consequences. Rather, the angels record against them whatever they do, Allah takes full account of it, and He will then requite them for it with the fullest recompense.
