Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

⦗119⦘ “O you who believe, fear Allah and be with the truthful.”

That is: “O you who believe” in Allah and in all that Allah has commanded you to believe, fulfill what faith requires—namely, observing fear of Allah Most High by avoiding and keeping far from all that He has forbidden.

“And be with the truthful” in their words, deeds, and states: those whose words are true and whose deeds and states embody nothing but truthfulness, free of laziness and listlessness, untainted by evil motives, and filled with sincerity and righteous intent. Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise.

Allah Most High says: “This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness,” to the end of the verse.
