(111) โIndeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, killing and being killed. This is a true promise binding upon Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran. Who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice, then, in the bargain you have made with Him. That is the supreme triumph.โ
The Most High conveys a truthful report and gives a true promise concerning a magnificent transaction โฆ353โฆ and a momentous exchange: He Himself โhas purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth.โ These are the object for which the price is paid and the merchandise being sold.
โIn exchange for Paradise,โ which contains all that souls desire and eyes delight in: every kind of pleasure, joy, and happiness, beautiful maidens, and elegant dwellings.
The nature of this contract and transaction is that they offer their lives and wealth to Allah in striving against His enemies, so that His word may be exalted and His religion made manifest. Thus, โThey fight in the cause of Allah, killing and being killed.โ This contract and transaction has come from Allah, reinforced by every form of confirmation.
โThis is a true promise binding upon Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran.โ These are the noblest, loftiest, and most perfect Books ever brought to the world. They were brought by the most perfect messengers, those of firm resolve, and all of them concur upon this truthful promise.
โWho is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice, then,โ O believers who abide by that for which Allah has given you His promise, โin the bargain you have made with Him.โ That is, rejoice in it, give one another glad tidings, and encourage one another.
โThat is the supreme triumphโโa triumph than which none is greater or more glorious, for it comprises everlasting happiness, enduring bliss, and the pleasure of Allah, which is greater than the bliss of Paradise. If you wish to know the value of this transaction, consider who the purchaser is: Allah, Glorified and Exalted; consider the recompense, the greatest and most glorious of all rewardsโthe Gardens of Bliss; and consider the price offered for them: oneโs life and wealth, the things dearest to a human being.
Consider also at whose hands the contract for this transaction was concludedโthe noblest of the messengersโand in which scriptures it was recorded: the great Books of Allah, sent down to the finest of His creation.
