Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(106) “And others are deferred until Allah’s command—either He will punish them or turn to them in mercy. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”

That is, “others” among those who stayed behind are deferred “until Allah’s command—either He will punish them or turn to them in mercy.” This contains a stern warning to those who stayed behind and urges them to repent and feel remorse.

“And Allah is All-Knowing” of His servants’ circumstances and intentions, and “All-Wise”: He places all things in their proper places and assigns them their appropriate stations. If His wisdom entails forgiving them and turning to them in mercy, He forgives them and turns to them in mercy; but if His wisdom entails withholding His aid from them and not granting them success in repenting, He does so.
