(87) Allah says, “They are content to be with those who remain behind.” That is: How could they be content to remain with the women who stayed behind from striving? Do they possess any understanding or reason that led them to this? Or has Allah sealed their hearts, so that they cannot comprehend what is good or desire to do what brings goodness and success? They do not understand their own best interests. Had they truly understood, they would not have accepted for themselves this condition, which lowers them beneath the station of men.
