(45–49) “O you who believe, when you encounter a force, stand firm and remember Allah often, so that you may succeed. *”

Allah Most High says: “O you who believe, when you encounter a force”—that is, a group of disbelievers fighting you.

“Stand firm” in fighting them. Exercise patience and restrain yourselves in obedience to this great command, whose outcome is honor and victory.

Seek help in doing so by remembering Allah often, “so that you may succeed”—that is, attain the victory over your enemies that you seek. Patience, steadfastness, and abundant remembrance of Allah are therefore among the greatest means of attaining victory.
