(181) His words: “And among those We created is a community that guides by the truth and thereby upholds justice.”

That is, among those We created is a virtuous community, complete in themselves and helping others attain completeness. They guide themselves and others by the truth: they know the truth, act upon it, teach it, and call others to it and to act upon it.

“And thereby they uphold justice” among people in their judgments whenever they rule concerning property, blood, rights, beliefs, and other matters. These are the leaders of guidance and lamps in the darkness. They are those whom Allah has blessed with faith, righteous deeds, mutual exhortation to truth, and mutual exhortation to patience. They are those of utmost truthfulness, whose rank comes immediately after that of messengership. Among themselves, they occupy varying ranks, each according to his condition and the loftiness of his station. Glory be to Him who singles out for His mercy whomever He wills. Allah is the Possessor of immense bounty.
