(35, 36) “O children of Adam! Whenever messengers from among you come to you, reciting My revelations to you, whoever fears Allah and mends his ways will have no fear, nor will they grieve. * But those who deny Our revelations and arrogantly reject them are the inhabitants of the Fire; they will abide therein forever.”
When Allah brought the children of Adam out of Paradise, He tested them by sending messengers and revealing Books to them. The messengers recounted Allah’s revelations to them and made His rulings clear to them. ⦗288⦘ Allah then mentioned the blessed reward of those who responded to them and the loss of those who did not, saying: “Whoever fears Allah”—by avoiding what Allah has forbidden, including polytheism and sins both major and minor—“and mends his ways,” rectifying his outward and inward deeds, “will have no fear” of the evil that others may fear, “nor will they grieve” over what has passed. When fear and grief are absent, complete security, happiness, and everlasting success are attained.
“But those who deny Our revelations and arrogantly reject them”—that is, their hearts neither believed in them nor did their limbs submit to them—“are the inhabitants of the Fire; they will abide therein forever.” Because they treated His revelations with contempt and persisted in denying them, they will be humiliated by an everlasting punishment from which they will never be free.
