(27) “O children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you as he drove your parents out of Paradise, stripping them of their garments to expose their nakedness to them. Indeed, he and his kind see you from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils allies of those who do not believe.”
Allah Most High warns the children of Adam lest Satan do to them what he did to their forefather: “O children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you” by making disobedience attractive to you, calling you to it, and enticing you toward it, so that you yield to him, “as he drove your parents out of Paradise” and brought them down from that lofty abode to a lower one. He seeks to do the same to you and will spare no effort against you until he tempts you, if he can. You must therefore remain mindful of the need to guard against him, don the armor of war in your struggle against him, and never neglect the points from which he gains entry to you.
For “he” watches you continually, and “he and his kind see you”—the devils among the jinn—“from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils allies of those who do not believe.” Thus, the absence of faith is what brings about the bond of allegiance between a human being and Satan.
“Indeed, he has no authority over those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who, through him, associate partners with Allah.”
