(126, 127) “This is the straight path of your Lord. We have indeed made the signs clear for people who take heed. Theirs is the Home of Peace with their Lord, and He is their Guardian because of what they used to do.”

That is, a level path leading to Allah and to His abode of honor. Its rulings have been made clear, its laws set forth in detail, and good distinguished from evil. Yet this detailed clarification is not for everyone; it is only “for people who take heed.” They are the ones who acquire knowledge and benefit from it. Allah has prepared for them an abundant reward and a splendid recompense. Thus He says: “Theirs is the Home of Peace with their Lord.”

Paradise is called the Home of Peace because it is free from every defect, affliction, disturbance, anxiety, sorrow, and every other source of distress. This necessarily means that its bliss is utterly perfect and complete: no one can adequately describe it, and no one could wish for anything beyond it. It contains bliss for the soul, the heart, and the body. There they will have whatever souls desire and eyes delight in, and there they will remain forever.

“And He is their Guardian”—the One who oversees their affairs, nurtures them, treats them graciously in all their circumstances, assists them in obeying Him, and facilitates for them every means leading to His love. He became their Guardian only because of their righteous deeds and the efforts by which they sought the pleasure of their Lord. This is unlike one who turns away from his Lord and follows his own desires: Allah gives Satan power over him, and Satan becomes his guardian, corrupting both his religion and his worldly life.
