(100–104) “Yet they made the jinn partners with Allah, though He created them, and they falsely attributed sons and daughters to Him without knowledge. Glorified and Exalted is He above what they ascribe to Him! He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth. How could He have a child when He has no consort? He created all things, and He has knowledge of all things.”
Allah Most High informs us that, despite His kindness toward His servants and His making Himself known to them through His clear signs and manifest proofs, the polytheists among the Quraysh and others made partners with Him whom they invoked and worshiped—the jinn and the angels, who are merely creatures among Allah’s creation and possess none of the qualities exclusive to lordship or divinity. They thus made them partners with the One to whom alone belong creation and command, who bestows every kind of blessing and wards off every affliction. Likewise, the polytheists “fabricated”—that is, they concocted lies and falsely claimed, entirely of their own accord—that Allah has sons and daughters, though they had no knowledge. Who could be more unjust than one who speaks about Allah without knowledge and falsely attributes to Him the most appalling deficiency, from which Allah must be declared free?!
He therefore declared Himself far above what the polytheists falsely attributed to Him, saying: “Glorified and Exalted is He above what they ascribe to Him!” He Most High possesses every attribute of perfection and is exalted above every deficiency, imperfection, and defect.
“He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth”; that is, their Creator, who fashioned them perfectly without any prior model, with unsurpassed beauty, order, and splendor—such that even discerning minds cannot conceive of their equal. Nor does anyone share with Him in creating them.
“How could He have a child when He has no consort?” That is, how could Allah have a child when He is God, the Sovereign, the Self-Sufficient Master, who has no consort—that is, no wife? He has no need of His creatures, while all of them are utterly dependent upon Him and compelled to rely upon Him in every circumstance. A child must necessarily be of the same kind as its parent, whereas Allah is the Creator of all things, and no created thing resembles Him in any respect.
After stating that He created all things, He mentions that His knowledge encompasses them, saying: “And He has knowledge of all things.” Mentioning knowledge after creation points to the rational evidence ⦗268⦘ establishing His knowledge: these created things themselves and the perfect order and wondrous craftsmanship they contain. All this demonstrates the vastness of the Creator’s knowledge and the perfection of His wisdom. As Allah Most High says: “Would He who created not know, when He is the Most Subtle, the All-Aware?” And He Most High says: “And He is the Supreme Creator, the All-Knowing.” Such is the One who created all that He created and decreed all that He decreed.
