(92) “This is a blessed Scripture which We have revealed, confirming the Scriptures that came before it, so that you may warn the Mother of Cities and all those around her. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and they carefully maintain their prayers.”
That is, “This” Quran, which “We have revealed” to you, is “blessed”—that is, it is characterized by blessing because of its abundant goodness and far-reaching benefits. It “confirms the Scriptures that came before it”; that is, it accords with the previous Scriptures and testifies to their truth.
“So that you may warn the Mother of Cities and all those around her.” That is, We also revealed it so that you may warn the Mother of Cities—honored Makkah—and those around it in the lands of the Arabs and, indeed, in every other land. Thus, you may warn people of Allah’s punishment, of His seizing the nations, and of whatever incurs that punishment. “Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it,” for when fear dwells in the heart, every part of it comes alive and it submits to what pleases Allah.
