Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“Those who are mindful of Allah are not accountable for them in any way; their duty is only to remind them, so that perhaps they may become mindful.”

“Those who are mindful of Allah are not accountable for them in any way; their duty is only to remind them, so that perhaps they may become mindful.” That is, he should remind and admonish them, so that perhaps they may become mindful of Allah Most High.

⦗261⦘ This indicates that an admonisher should employ whatever words are most likely to achieve the intended mindfulness of Allah. It also indicates that if reminding and admonishing a person only adds further evil to his existing evil, to the point that refraining from it becomes obligatory (1), then refraining from it is the intended course, for it has become contrary to the intended aim.

(1) In B: “It was obligatory to abandon it.”
