(46, 47) “Say, ‘Have you considered: if Allah took away your hearing and sight and sealed your hearts, what god other than Allah could restore them to you?’ See how We present the signs in diverse ways, yet still they turn away. * Say, ‘Tell me: if Allah’s punishment came upon you suddenly or manifestly, would any but the wrongdoing people be destroyed?’”
Allah states that, just as He alone creates and governs all things, He alone possesses oneness and the right to be worshipped. Thus He says: “Say, ‘Have you considered: if Allah took away your hearing and sight and sealed your hearts,’” leaving you without hearing, sight, or reason, “‘what god other than Allah could restore them to you?’” Since none besides Allah can restore these faculties, why do you worship alongside Him those who have no power whatsoever unless Allah wills it? ⦗257⦘
This is among the proofs of Allah’s oneness and the falsity of associating partners with Him. He therefore says: “See how We present the signs in diverse ways”—that is, We vary them and present them in every form so that they illuminate the truth and make the path of the evildoers clear. “Yet still they,” despite this complete clarification, “turn away” from Allah’s signs and shun them.
“Say, ‘Tell me’”—that is, inform me—“if Allah’s punishment came upon you suddenly or manifestly”; that is, without warning, or after precursors had already appeared through which you knew that it was about to occur. “Would any but the wrongdoing people be destroyed?” They brought the punishment upon themselves through their wrongdoing and obstinacy. Beware of persisting in wrongdoing, for it is eternal ruin and everlasting misery.
