Thus He says: “When they come to you to argue with you, those who disbelieve say, ‘This is nothing but fables of the ancients.’” That is, they claim it was taken from the written records of earlier peoples, which did not come from Allah or His messengers. This claim stems from their disbelief. Otherwise, how could this Book—which encompasses accounts of earlier and later generations, the truths brought by the prophets and messengers, and truth, equity, and perfect justice in every respect—be fables of the ancients?

(26) “They prevent others from it and keep themselves away from it, but they destroy none but themselves, though they do not perceive it.”
