Thus, when the truth came to them through its sound methods and the principles upon which it rests, it did not guide them, though others were guided by it. They alone were to blame, for they had closed the door of guidance upon themselves and opened the doors of error.
(10, 11) “Messengers before you were indeed mocked, but those who ridiculed them were overwhelmed by the very thing they used to mock. Say, ‘Travel throughout the land, then observe what became of those who denied the truth.’”
Allah Almighty says this to console His Messenger and encourage him to remain patient, while threatening and warning His enemies. “Messengers before you were indeed mocked.” When they brought clear proofs to their peoples, they were rejected and mocked, as was the message they brought. Allah therefore destroyed those people for their disbelief and rejection, and gave them the fullest measure of punishment. “But those who ridiculed them were overwhelmed by the very thing they used to mock.” So beware, you who reject the truth, of persisting in your rejection, lest what befell them also befall you.
