⦗105⦘ “O you who believe, take care of your own souls. Those who have gone astray cannot harm you if you are rightly guided. To Allah you will all return, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”
The Most High says, “O you who believe, take care of your own souls”; that is, strive to reform and perfect them, and compel them to follow the straight path. If you are righteous, those who stray from the straight path and are not guided to the true religion cannot harm you; they harm only themselves.
This does not mean that a person will suffer no harm if he abandons and neglects enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. Indeed, his guidance cannot be complete unless he fulfils his duty to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.
However, if he is unable to oppose wrongdoing with his hand or tongue but condemns it in his heart, then the misguidance of others will not harm him.
His words, “To Allah you will all return,” mean that your final destination on the Day of Resurrection is to assemble before Allah, the Most High. “And He will inform you of what you used to do,” whether good or evil.
