(57, 58) “O you who believe, do not take as allies those who have made your religion an object of mockery and amusement—whether among those given the Scripture before you or among the disbelievers. And fear Allah, if you are truly believers.”
He forbids His believing servants from taking as allies the People of the Scripture—the Jews and Christians—and all other disbelievers: loving them, giving them allegiance, disclosing to them (1) the believers’ secrets, and assisting them in some of their affairs that harm Islam and the Muslims. The faith they possess requires them to refrain from allying themselves with them and urges them to show enmity toward them. Likewise, their commitment to fearing Allah—which consists in obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions—is among the things that ⦗237⦘ prompt them to show enmity toward them.
