Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(46, 47) “And We sent Jesus son of Mary in their footsteps, confirming the Torah that came before him. We gave him the Gospel, in which are guidance and light, confirming the Torah that came before it, and as guidance and admonition for the God-fearing. * Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. Those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed—it is they who are defiantly disobedient.”

That is, We sent Our servant and messenger Jesus son of Mary after those prophets and messengers who judged according to the Torah. He was a spirit from Allah and His Word which He conveyed to Mary.

Allah sent him to confirm the Torah that preceded him. He thus bore witness to Moses and to the truth and veracity of the Torah he brought, supported his call, judged according to his revealed law, and agreed with him on most matters of Sacred Law.

Jesus, peace be upon him, may have brought more lenient rulings in certain matters, as Allah Most High relates of him ⦗234⦘ that he said to the Children of Israel: “And to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you.”

“We gave him the Gospel”—the great Scripture that completed the Torah. “In which are guidance and light”: it guides to the Straight Path and distinguishes truth from falsehood. “Confirming the Torah that came before it,” by affirming it, bearing witness to it, and agreeing with it. “And as guidance and admonition for the God-fearing,” for they are the ones who benefit from guidance, heed admonitions, and refrain from what is unbefitting.

“Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein.” That is, they are obliged to adhere to their Scripture and are not permitted to turn away from it. “Those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed—it is they who are defiantly disobedient.”

﴿٤٦، ٤٧﴾ ﴿وَقَفَّيْنَا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الإنْجِيلَ فِيهِ هُدًى وَنُورٌ وَمُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةً لِلْمُتَّقِينَ * وَلْيَحْكُمْ أَهْلُ الإنْجِيلِ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَحْكُمْ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ﴾ . أي: وأتبعنا هؤلاء الأنبياءَ والمرسلين، الذين يحكمون بالتوراة، بعبدنا ورسولنا عيسى ابن مريم، روحِ الله وكلمتِه التي ألقاها إلى مريم. بعثه الله مصدقا لما بين يديه من التوراة، فهو شاهد لموسى ولما جاء به من التوراة بالحق والصدق، ومؤيد لدعوته، وحاكم بشريعته، وموافق له في أكثر الأمور الشرعية. وقد يكون عيسى ﵇ أخف في بعض الأحكام، كما قال تعالى عنه ⦗٢٣٤⦘ أنه قال لبني إسرائيل: ﴿وَلأحِلَّ لَكُم بَعْضَ الَّذِي حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ﴾ . ﴿وَآتَيْنَاهُ الإنْجِيلَ﴾ الكتاب العظيم المتمم للتوراة. ﴿فِيهِ هُدًى وَنُورٌ﴾ يهدي إلى الصراط المستقيم، ويبين الحق من الباطل. ﴿وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ﴾ بتثبيتها والشهادة لها والموافقة. ﴿وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَة لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ﴾ فإنهم الذين ينتفعون بالهدى، ويتعظون بالمواعظ، ويرتدعون عما لا يليق. ﴿وَلْيَحْكُمْ أَهْلُ الإنجِيلِ بِمَا أَنزلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ﴾ أي: يلزمهم التقيد بكتابهم، ولا يجوز لهم العدول عنه. ﴿وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُمْ بِمَا أَنزلَ اللَّهُ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ﴾ .
