(172–175) “Those who responded to Allah and the Messenger after suffering injury—for those among them who did good and feared Allah there is a great reward. Those to whom people said, ‘The people have gathered against you, so fear them,’ but this only increased them in faith, and they said, ‘Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.’”
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from “Uhud” to Medina and heard that Abū Sufyān and the polytheists with him intended to return to Medina, he called upon his Companions to set out. Despite their wounds, they went forth in response and obedience to Allah and His Messenger. When they reached “Hamrā al-Asad,” someone came to them and said, “The people have gathered against you” and intend to wipe you out. This was meant to frighten and intimidate them, but it only increased their faith in Allah and their reliance upon Him.
“And they said, ‘Allah is sufficient for us’”—that is, He suffices us in everything that concerns us—“and He is the best Disposer of affairs,” the One to whom the management of His servants’ affairs is entrusted and who attends to their welfare.
