(31–36) “Indeed, the God-fearing will have triumph—* gardens and grapevines, * full-bosomed maidens of equal age, * and a brimming cup. * There they will hear neither idle talk nor falsehood—* a recompense from your Lord, a gift in full measure.”
After mentioning the state of the evildoers, He mentions the final abode of the God-fearing, saying: “Indeed, the God-fearing will have triumph.” That is, (1) those who guarded themselves against their Lord’s wrath by holding fast to obedience to Him and refraining from what He dislikes (2). They will have triumph and deliverance and will be far removed from the Fire. In that place of triumph, they will have “gardens”—orchards containing every kind of splendid, fruit-bearing tree, with rivers flowing among them. Grapevines are singled out for mention because of their excellence and abundance in those gardens.
There they will have wives fulfilling the soul’s desires: “full-bosomed maidens,” namely young women whose breasts have not sagged, owing to their youth, vitality, and freshness (3).
“Of equal age” means that they are all of the same or nearly the same age. Women of equal age are ordinarily harmonious and companionable with one another. The age they will have is thirty-three, the most perfectly balanced age of youth (4).
“And a brimming cup”—that is, filled with pure wine, delightful to those who drink it. “There they will hear neither idle talk,” meaning speech that serves no benefit, “nor falsehood,” meaning sinful speech.
As Allah Most High says: “There they will hear neither idle nor sinful talk, but only the words, ‘Peace! Peace!’”
