(46–50) “Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little while; indeed, you are criminals. * Woe on that Day to the deniers! * When they are told, ‘Bow [in prayer],’ they do not bow. * Woe on that Day to the deniers! * So in what message after this will they believe?”
This is a threat and warning to the deniers: although they may eat and drink in this world, indulge in its pleasures, and neglect deeds that draw them near to Allah, they are criminals who deserve the fate of criminals. Their pleasures will soon come to an end, while they will remain answerable for their deeds. Among their crimes is that, when commanded to pray—the noblest act of worship—and told, “Bow,” they refuse to do so.
What crime could be greater than this? What denial could surpass it?
“Woe on that Day to the deniers!” Part of their woe is that the doors of divine enablement are closed to them and they are deprived of every good. For if they deny this noble Quran, which represents the highest degree of truth and absolute certainty, then “in what message after this will they believe?” Will they believe in falsehood, which is exactly as its name implies and is supported by not even a specious argument, much less proof? Or in the words of every lying polytheist and blatant fabricator?
After manifest light there is nothing but the depths of ⦗906⦘ darkness; and after truth, whose truthfulness is established by proofs and demonstrations, there is nothing but outright falsehood and manifest fabrication (1), which befits only those whose nature accords with it.
May they perish—how blind they are! Alas for them—how great their loss and how wretched they are!
We ask Allah for pardon and well-being [Indeed, He is Bountiful and Generous. Completed].
