(41–45) “Indeed, the righteous will be amid shade and springs, * and fruits of whatever they desire. * Eat and drink with enjoyment for what you used to do. * Indeed, this is how We reward the doers of good. * Woe on that Day to the deniers!”
Having mentioned the punishment of the deniers, He then mentioned the reward (1) of the doers of good, saying: “Indeed, the righteous”—[that is,] those who guard themselves against denial and are characterized by affirmation in their words, actions, and deeds. They can only be so by fulfilling their obligations and refraining from what is forbidden.
“Amid shade” provided by the abundance of diverse, flourishing, and beautiful trees, “and springs” flowing with Salsabīl, pure wine, and other drinks, “and fruits of whatever they desire”—that is, the finest and most delicious fruits. They will be told: “Eat and drink” of delectable foods and delicious beverages, “with enjoyment”—that is, without anything to trouble them or spoil their pleasure. Their enjoyment cannot be complete unless their food and drink are free of every defect and deficiency, and unless they are certain that it will never cease or pass away—“for what you used to do.” Your deeds are thus the means by which you attain this everlasting bliss (2). The same applies to everyone who worships Allah with excellence and does good to His servants. Hence He says: “Indeed, this is how We reward the doers of good. Woe on that Day to the deniers!” If this woe entailed nothing more for them than being deprived of such bliss, that alone would suffice as deprivation and loss (3).
