(4–22) “Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains, shackles, and a blazing Fire. * Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup whose mixture is camphor.”
And so on through the end of the passage concerning the reward. That is, We have prepared and made ready for those who disbelieve in Allah, deny His messengers, and brazenly commit sins “chains” in the Fire of Hell, as Allah the Exalted says: “Then insert him into a chain whose length is seventy cubits.”
“And shackles” with which their hands will be fastened to their necks and they will be securely bound.
“And a blazing Fire”—that is, a fire that will rage over their bodies and burn their flesh. “Whenever their skins are roasted through, We will replace them with other skins so that they may taste the punishment.” This punishment will be theirs forever; they will abide therein eternally.
As for “the righteous,” they are those whose hearts have become righteous through the love and knowledge of Allah within them and through noble character. Their limbs have likewise become righteous (1), and they employ them in righteous deeds. Allah informs us that “they will drink from a cup”—that is, a delicious wine mixed with camphor, blended with it to cool the wine and temper its intensity. This camphor [is supremely delightful] and is free from every impurity and unpleasant quality found in worldly camphor. Whatever imperfections exist in this world among the things that Allah mentions by name as being in Paradise will be absent in the Hereafter (2).
As Allah the Exalted says: “Among thornless lote trees and banana trees layered with fruit”; “and purified spouses”; “For them will be the Home of Peace with their Lord”; and “Therein is whatever the souls desire and what delights the eyes.”
