(19) “Indeed, this is a reminder; so whoever wills may take a path to his Lord.”
[That is:] This admonition, in which Allah has related the events and terrors of the Day of Resurrection (1), is a reminder from which the God-fearing take heed and by which the believers are restrained. “So whoever wills may take a path to his Lord”—that is, a path leading to Him, by following His revealed law. He has made it perfectly plain and clarified it to the utmost. This is evidence that Allah Most High has granted His servants the ability to perform their deeds and enabled them to do so—not as the Jabriyya claim, namely, that their deeds occur without their will, for this contradicts both revelation and reason.
