(15–16) “Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. * But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.”

Allah Most High says: Praise your Lord for sending this unlettered Arab Prophet, the bearer of glad tidings and the warner, who will bear witness concerning the deeds of his community. Give thanks to Him and fulfill the duty entailed by this magnificent blessing. Beware of showing ingratitude for it by disobeying your Messenger, lest you become like Pharaoh when Allah sent Moses son of Imran to him. Moses called him to Allah and commanded him to affirm His oneness, but Pharaoh did not believe him; rather, he disobeyed him. ⦗894⦘ Allah therefore seized him with a ruinous seizure—that is, one both severe and overwhelming.
