⦗1–2⦘ “In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Say: ‘It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened and said: “We have heard a wondrous Quran, which guides to the right way. We therefore believe in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Lord.”’”
That is: “Say,” O Messenger, to the people, “It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened.” Allah directed them [to His Messenger] to hear His verses, so that the proof would be established against them, [His blessing upon them would be completed], and they would become warners (1) to their people. Allah commanded His Messenger to recount their story to the people. When they came to hear it, they said, “Listen attentively!” Once they listened attentively, they understood its meanings, and its truths reached their hearts. “They said: ‘We have heard a wondrous Quran’”—that is, one containing precious wonders and lofty aims.
